From 1968 to 1998 Andersen offered 200 Series Perma-Shield® gliding patio doors with either a 2-panel configuration (with joined stationary panel) or a 3-panel configuration. To verify your patio door vintage, locate the Andersen® Glass Logo Opens in a New Browser Tab. This logo contains information to help determine when the product was manufactured.

2-Panel Patio Door Configuration

A 2-panel Perma-Shield® gliding patio door unit with a stationary (non-operating) patio door joined to it appears similar to a 3-panel patio door unit.

3-Panel Patio Door Configuration

A 3-panel Perma-Shield® gliding patio door consists of three (3) door panels that share a single frame: one (1) operating panel flanked on both sides by a stationary (non-operating) panel.

Key Identifiers

The interlock weatherstrip on the lock side of the operating panel is notched to house the special 3-panel patio door lock (not shown below). If, after inspecting the weatherstrip on the lock side of the operating panel, you determine it is not notched to resemble the image below, you may not have an Andersen® 3-panel Perma-Shield® gliding patio door.

Inspect the lock hardware. When engaging the lock on a 3-panel operating patio door panel, the latch lever operates by pushing on the lock. With the lock pushed inward, the latch lever can be turned. In addition, the latch lever has "push" in writing. The lock itself, located on the interior of the home, will have an exposed hook.
