When to Use This Article

To help maintain proper operation, inspect the condition of your hinges and clean them at least once per year. If you live in a coastal, industrial, or agricultural area with higher levels of airborne material like dirt, dust, smoke, and salt spray, we recommend following these instructions at least every three (3) months.

Misaligned hinges can cause:

  • Stiff or difficult handle and lock operation.
  • Weatherstrip rubbing on the frame or panel.

This Article Will Help You:

  • Adjust hinges on A-Series, 400 Series Frenchwood®, and 400 Series Frenchwood® with StormWatch® Protection hinged inswing patio doors.

Tools and Supplies Needed

  • Safety glasses
  • 5/32-inch hex wrench
  • Step ladder (optional)

Let's Get Started

Adjust Hinges

For full written instructions on adjusting your hinges, follow steps one (1) and two (2) on Page 3 of the Hinge Replacement & Hardware Adjustment Guide for A-Series & 400 Series Frenchwood® Hinged Inswing Patio Doors (0005413) Opens in a New Browser Tab or see the simple instructions below.

For horizontal adjustments:

  • With a 5/32-inch hex wrench, adjust all hinges inward or outward as needed to correct the gap and center the patio door panel in the frame. The gap between the door panel and the frame should be equal to the thickness of the 5/32-inch hex wrench.

For vertical adjustments:

  1. With a 5/32-inch hex wrench, turn the vertical adjustment screw on the bottom hinge clockwise by a half turn.
  2. Continue turning the screw until the door panel is centered vertically in the door frame.
  3. On the next hinge, turn the vertical adjustment screw clockwise until the door panel moves slightly.
  4. Turn counterclockwise a quarter turn.
  5. Repeat for the remaining hinges (working up from the bottom hinge).
