Andersen® windows and patio doors have specific handling conventions. These handing conventions are based on how the window or patio door opens. To keep handing consistent, there is a basic process for handing the window or patio door unit.

Andersen hands all windows and patio doors from the EXTERIOR of the home.

Each window and patio door has a specific procedure for determining the handing. On occasion, there are exceptions to the rule above. To find articles specific to product handing, search for the operation type of the window or patio door.

To make sure the handing is accurate, we highly recommend viewing the unit from the exterior to determine the handing.  In situations where it is impractical or not possible to view the unit from the exterior, the handing reference will need to be reversed.  For example, if you are viewing a patio door from inside the home and the hinges are on the left-hand side of the patio door panel, they would be on the right-hand side if viewed from the exterior, making it a right-handed panel.

Please contact the Andersen Solution Center with any questions on handing, see Contact Andersen® Windows and Doors .
