Cleaning

Tracks and Components

The upper and lower tracks—where the screen slides—should always be:

  • Straight

  • Free of dirt and debris

  • Free of visible damage

Use a vacuum or cloth to remove any buildup. Occasionally, rinse the tracks with water to help clear out dirt and maintain smooth operation.

Avoid using oil-based lubricants or cleaners, as they can attract more debris. Instead, use a non-oil-based spray lubricant designed for sliding door tracks.

Screen Mesh

To clean the insect screen mesh, gently brush it with a clean, soft brush. This helps remove dust and debris without damaging the mesh.

Operation

The Andersen retractable screen is designed for smooth, intuitive use. Follow these guidelines to ensure proper operation and long-term performance.

How It Works

When the insect screen mesh is fully extended, the handle automatically latches to the latch side. To release the latch, slide the release lever up or down. The screen will then automatically retract into its housing.

Track Safety Feature

The screen is designed to release from the track under pressure to help prevent damage to the retracting mechanism or mesh.

If the screen mesh comes off the track, simply open and close the screen to reset it.

Best Practices for Operation

To keep your screen functioning properly:

  • Use a level, even, back-and-forth motion when opening or closing

  • Do not lift or push down on the screen while operating

  • Avoid applying inward or outward pressure to the handle

  • Do not step on, push heavy objects over, or roll carts across the lower track, as this may cause damage

Speed Adjustments

The tension on your retractable screen is factory preset and does not require adjustment.

Proper Usage

Andersen recommends checking the installation of your retractable screen once a year.

Ensure the screen housing is installed according to the guidelines in our installation instructions, see Installing the Andersen® Retractable Screen for Gliding Patio Doors.

Note: The retractable screen is intended for insect control only. It is not designed to retain objects, people, or pets inside. It will not prevent someone from falling through the door.
