Andersen offers two (2) hung window styles: single-hung and double-hung window units. The single-hung upper window sash is fixed and does not vent; the lower window sash can be raised to open. Double-hung units have both upper and lower operating sash.
Andersen® double-hung and single-hung window units are not handed. The window parts are handed; handing is based on the part's location on the window unit as viewed from the exterior (outside) of the home.
Window sash are classified as either upper or lower based on their location within the window frame.

Double-hung and single-hung window locks are not handed and are located between the upper and lower window sash.
Locks
Balancers are the mechanisms that hold the upper and lower window sash in place within the window frame. They are connected to the window sash on both the left- and right-hand side and handed based on their location as viewed from the exterior (outside) of the home. The image shown above is a Narroline® double-hung balancer.
Balancers
Double-hung and single-hung windows have the option of cottage or reverse cottage configuration in which the upper and lower sash are different heights. The cottage style includes an upper sash shorter than the lower sash. The reverse cottage style includes an upper sash taller than the lower sash. For each product Series, review the Standard Size Charts 
to view the double-hung and single-hung units offered.
