If the lock latch on your Andersen® hinged patio door doesn't move after installation, or stopped working properly, it should be a quick fix to resolve your concern.

Fix a Stuck Lock Latch on Hinged Inswing and Outswing Patio Doors

The lock latch on a hinged patio door is a wedge-like part located beneath the deadbolt, which both hold the door closed. When you pull the patio door handle down, the lock latch retracts into the door frame so the patio door can open.

Let's Get Started

New Hinged Patio Door Units

Inspect the lock latch to see if there is a white, plastic component wedged between the lock latch and lock mechanism, like the image to the right. This plastic component prevents damage to both the lock and patio door panel during shipping and installation.
To remove the plastic component, use a flat head screwdriver and pry the component out. The lock latch should spring out after the component is removed.
- If the plastic component is not present or if the lock latch does not spring out after removing the plastic component, follow the in-depth instructions below.

Resolution

If popping the white plastic out of the latch area resolved your concern, you're all set! If not, follow the steps below.

Latch Stopped Working on Existing Hinged Patio Door Unit

If the lock latch previously worked but has stopped, it may have been pushed in too far and wedged in the lock mechanism.

Release the lock latches. Use the installation guides to the right for assistance.
Once the lock latch releases, push it back into place without switching the handing.

If the lock latch does not release after following those steps, we recommend you replace the lock mechanism at the Andersen Parts Store.

Installation guides to release lock latch:

For E-Series inswing and outswing French patio doors, follow steps one (1) and two (2) on Page 2 in the Lock Mechanism Handing Change Guide (9069263).
For 200 Series inswing patio door with a multi-point lock, follow step four (4) on Page 2 and step six (6) on Page 3 in the Multipoint Lock Mechanism Replacement Guide (0005485).
For A-Series and 400 Series Frenchwood® hinged inswing and outswing patio doors, follow step one (1) on Page 2 in the Lock Mechanism Handing Change Guide (0005204).
