Oil rubbed bronze is a centuries-old finish designed to simulate aged bronze. It is considered a "living finish" with no protective coating. With frequent operation and use, the natural oils from your hands will polish away the dark outer finish to expose the bronze beneath, often resulting in a two-tone appearance. No method will speed up the natural bronzing process.

The appearance of the oil rubbed bronze hardware will vary depending on usage and environmental conditions.

Caring for Oil Rubbed Bronze Hardware

To deepen the color and sheen of your oil-rubbed bronze hardware, occasionally apply light machine oil, mineral oil or sewing machine oil to all metal parts.

Cover all metal parts with oil.

Allow the oil to stand for a few minutes.

Gently rub off any excess oil using a clean cloth.

If your hardware has come into contact with abrasives, ammonia or other harsh chemicals, your hardware should be taken to a professional hardware restorer.
