Many Andersen® windows and patio doors are available with a primed interior finish option. A primed surface is designed to provide a good base for field-applied paints. When painting Andersen® products with a primed wood surface, follow the instructions provided below.

 

Components may need to be removed during painting. Painting Primed Interior Unfinished Surfaces

 

Tools / Supplies Needed

3M Scotch-Brite® Pad or Steel Wool

Tack Cloth

High-Quality Interior Oil- or Water-Based Trim Paint (specified for the type of wood trim)

Plastic Scraper

 

  1. Open or remove the component being painted. Please see Technical Documents Opens in a New Browser Tab to find instructions on window and patio door panel installation or removal

     

  2. Lightly scuff the primed surface with a 3M Scotch-Brite® Pad or steel wool to aid in paint adhesion

     

  3. Remove dust particles with a tack cloth

     

  4. Apply two (2) coats of paint, following the paint manufacturer's instructions

     

  5. Clean excess paint from the glass using a plastic scraper

     

  6. Let the paint fully dry before closing or reassembling
