Optimum performance of your Andersen® patio door retractable insect screen can be achieved with basic routine maintenance. Checking the insect screen canister installation and adjustment can help your retractable insect screen to perform smoothly. If you need assistance identifying your Andersen® products, visit our Identify Your Product pathway in the Andersen® Window and Door Help Center.

Cleaning

The lower track which the insect screen slides along, and all other components, should be straight, clean, and free of damage. Avoid using an oil-based lubricant/cleaner. We recommend you use a non-oil-based spray for lubricating the screen.

The upper and lower tracks that the insect screen glides along should be clear of dirt or debris; if needed, remove contaminants from the glides and channels with a vacuum or cloth.

Operation

The Andersen® retractable insect screens are designed to release from the track under pressure to guard against damage to the retracting mechanism and/or insect screen cloth. If the insect screen comes off the track, open and close the insect screen to reset it. When operating your Andersen® retractable insect screen, be sure to keep the following items in mind:

Use a level, even, back-and-forth motion.

Do not lift up or push down on the insect screen.

Avoid applying inward or outward pressure to the handle.

Stepping on, pushing heavy objects, or rolling carts over the lower track of the insect screen may cause damage to the lower track.

Installation

Check to make sure that the installation of your retractable insect screen canister conforms to the recommendations provided in our installation guides, see Retractable Insect Screen Installation.

Adjustments

The tension on your retractable insect screen is factory preset. If you would prefer that your retractable insect screen operates with more or less tension, see Canister Adjustment for Patio Door Retractable Insect Screens

Andersen recommends checking the installation and adjustment of your retractable insect screen once a year. When inspecting your retractable insect screen, please inspect the following to ensure proper operation:
