This article has information on how to remove stubborn materials from the glass. There are instructions on what to use and what not to use when removing materials from the glass.

Before proceeding with the cleaning instructions below, it is important to identify the glass type. The Andersen® or Eagle glass logo on your product is commonly etched in the corner of the glass surface. The etched logo contains a series of letters and numbers and is used to identify glass type. For more information, see Glass Type Identification for Andersen® Windows and Patio Doors.

If you are unsure about your glass type, where to find the glass logo or any of the glazing types listed below, Contact Andersen® Windows and Doors.

Instructions for HeatLock™ Glass

Units with HeatLock™ glass have an innovative coating on the interior surface that may be damaged if abrasive products are used during the cleaning process. If your product has HeatLock™ glass, only mild soap and water should be used for cleaning.

Important: Do not clean the glass when exposed to direct sunlight.

Cleaning with Soap or Mineral Spirits

The cleaning instructions provided here are not recommended for HeatLock™ glass.

Caution: Excessive use of solvents will damage the glazing or insulating unit seals. Immediately clean the frame with soap and water to prevent staining. Follow the manufacturer’s directions on the label for toxicity, handling, and flammability warnings.

Apply a mild detergent and water solution, and a small number of mineral spirits or naphtha solvents to the glass either by spraying or using a clean, grit-free cloth or sponge.

Wipe the cleaning solution on the glass in a circular motion, applying light to moderate pressure. Approximately three (3) to five (5) passes of the affected area may be required to remove the residue.

Rinse the glass surface immediately with generous amounts of clean water to remove the cleaning solution from the glass surface.

Using a squeegee or clean, lint-free dry cloth, remove water from the glass surface.

If residue remains, repeat the steps.

Cleaning with Toothpaste
