Andersen® hinged inswing patio door units are handed from the exterior (outside) of the home using the location of the hinges on the patio door panel. For example, the photo below has the hinges on the right-hand side as viewed from the exterior, making it a right-handed patio door unit. Frenchwood® inswing patio door panels are handed as active, passive, or stationary.

Configurations Available

Hinged inswing patio door handing as viewed from the exterior of the home. The dark arrow indicates the active patio door panel, which opens first on double-door units. The active panel is the operating panel most often used. The passive panel is the operating panel with the astragal attached. Hinged inswing patio door panels are labeled from left to right.

Component Handing Information

Frenchwood® inswing patio door exterior handles  are handed the same as the unit. Interior handles are handed opposite of the unit. Frenchwood® inswing patio door exterior trim sets and interior trim sets  are handed the same as handles. The exterior trim set is handed with the unit while the interior trim set is handed opposite of the unit. Frenchwood® inswing patio door hinges are handed the same as the unit and may consist of left-handed hinges  ​​​​​​and/or right-handed hinges . Active and passive Lock mechanisms  are universally handed and have an adjustment to switch the handing. To change the handing, see Change Handing of Lock on Hinged Patio Door. Hinged Insect Screens  are handed the same as the unit. 

The following components are not handed: Gliding Insect Screens , Exterior Keyed Locks  and Weatherstrip .
