Exterior keyed locks for gliding patio doors are an accessory item that can be installed after the unit is installed. To install an exterior keyed lock on your patio door, first determine the patio door unit Series. Exterior Keyed Lock Handing
Before installing an exterior keyed lock, make sure the handing is correct. The handing of the gliding patio door exterior keyed lock needs to match the handing of the patio door unit for optimal performance. To determine if your exterior keyed lock has the correct handing, remove the exterior keyed lock. The process is shown in the video below.
Exterior Keyed Lock 1994 - 2005
Once removed, turn the exterior keyed lock over and look directly under the tailpiece receiver. There should be an L or Rlisted. This should match up with your patio door unit handing. If it does not match, a replacement exterior keyed lockis needed.
Left-Handed (L)

Exterior Keyed Lock 2006 - Present
To determine if the handing is correct, determine the color of the large gear. If it does not match, an exterior keyed lock gear kitis needed.
Large Gear Gold - Left-Handed (L)
