The lock latch on hinged patio door is a wedge-like piece located beneath the deadbolt (shown to the right) which helps hold the door in the closed position. When the patio door lever handle is pulled downward, the lock latch retracts to allow the patio door panel to be opened.
If the lock latch does not move, please follow the guidelines below for either new hinged patio door units or for patio door units where the lock latch previously worked but stopped working.
New Hinged Patio Door Units
Inspect the lock latch to see if there is a White, plastic component wedged between the lock latch and lock mechanism. This component should be removed if found. This plastic component prevents damage to both the lock and patio door panel during shipping and installation.

Latch - Part of Lock Mechanism

Tools / Supplies Needed
Safety Glasses
Flat Head Screwdriver
To remove the plastic component, use a flat head screwdriver and pry the component out. The lock latch should spring out after the component is removed. If the plastic component is not present or if the lock latch does not spring out after removing the plastic component, proceed to the next section.
Lock Latch Previously Worked - Stopped Working
If the lock latch has stopped working, it may have been pushed in too far and has become wedged in the lock mechanism. To resolve this, please see Change Lock's Handing on Andersen® Hinged Patio Door and follow the instructions within the heading section Changing Hinged Patio Door Lock Mechanism Handing for releasing the lock latch. Once the lock latch releases, push it back into place without switching the handing. If the lock latch does not release after following the instructions provided in the video, a new lock mechanism
is needed.
