A protective film is a plastic film applied to the interior and exterior glass surfaces. The protective film is intended to temporarily help protect the glass during construction and installation. It is recommended that the film be removed within the first six (6) months after the Andersen® window or patio door was manufactured. The film is removed more easily at temperatures above 32° F.

Warnings

If a ladder or scaffolding is needed to reach and remove the protective film from the glass, make sure the ladder or scaffolding is secure and care is taken during the removal of the film. Failure to do so may result in injury.

The protective film may pose a suffocation hazard to children. Properly dispose of the film immediately after removal and keep it out of reach of children.

Peeling off the protective film may result in a static charge that could cause a shock or spark. Static charge and spark can pass through to the other side of the glass.

Solvent, cleaner, and foam insulation must be dry, and all flammables must be safely stored before removing the protective film. Misting glass with water may reduce static charge and spark.

Removal Tips

Peel back the protective film slowly at a corner using a fingernail or clean plastic scraper as needed. Never use razor blades on the glass surface.

Clean glass following removal. A slight adhesive residue is normal and is only seen on the exterior of the glass. The residue will disappear on its own over time. If the remaining adhesive residue is excessive, we recommend removing the residue using a clean, soft cloth and common glass cleaner, see Cleaning Glass and Products Made with Aluminum, Vinyl, Fibrex® Material, and Fiberglass.
