Andersen® A‑Series and 400 Series casement windows use an operator mechanism to open and close the sash. When you turn the handle, the operator’s arm extends or retracts to move the window. This article applies to windows that use a split-arm operator. If your window uses a straight‑arm operator, see Straight-Arm Operators for A-Series and 400 Series Casement Windows for the correct information.

If your window is not opening or closing properly, this article can help you identify the type of operator on your window so you can order the correct replacement. Keep in mind that, depending on the vintage of your window, the replacement split-arm operator may not look the same as the operator you are replacing.

To order the correct replacement operator, you will need to determine your:

  • Window vintage, when the window was manufactured

  • Window handing, where the lock is located in the window frame, left or right

  • Visible glass width, the dimension of the glass you can see and touch

  • Operator arm length, the length of the hinged arm that pushes the window open. See below for example measurements.

You can determine your window’s vintage by locating the Andersen® glass logo on the sash. For assistance, see Identify Glass Type on Andersen® Windows and Patio Doors. Once identified, use the information below to select the correct operator from the Andersen Windows and Doors Parts Store Opens in a New Browser Tab.
