Modifications or Conversions
Can I replace my own glass?
|
Contact Andersen® Windows and Doors for advice before making any decisions about replacing any glass in your Andersen window or patio door.
Attempting to replace window or patio door glass yourself can result in property damage or personal injury. Instead, glass can be replaced by ordering a replacement sash for a window or a patio door panel, which is easier and safer
|
Can I install a window-mounted air conditioner in my window?
|
We do not recommend installing window-mounted air conditioning units in your Andersen® window.
Although window-mounted air conditioning units are installed in windows, Andersen® does not provide installation instructions because there is too significant a risk of damage to the window.
|
What is "handing" and can I change it on my window or patio door myself?
|
We do not recommend changing the handing of your window or patio door, which is the direction that your window or patio door opens (i.e., whether it opens from the left or right side).
To review the different handing options available for windows and patio doors, see Andersen® Window and Patio Door Handing.
|
Can I change which side of my window or patio door opens?
| We do not recommend converting the operation of your window or patio door (i.e., converting a stationary window or patio door panel that does not move into an operating window or patio door panel that does move). |
Can I change how my casement or awning window opens?
|
Casement and awning windows use a handle to crank, which in turn causes a straight-arm operator to extend or split-arm operator to scissor, to open and close the window.
We do not recommend changing how the window opens by converting the opener from a split-arm operator to a straight-arm operator — or vice versa, from the original component.
Window hardware, such as operators, are specifically designed to support the weight and size of the window. Altering the product can compromise window or patio door integrity, affect operation and performance, and potentially result in property damage and personal injury.
Note: Modifying the product may impact the Andersen® Owner-2-Owner® Limited Warranty. Damage as a result of modification or conversion is not covered.
To replace an operator, see Identify Casement or Awning Window Operator.
