If your hinged insect screen is dragging on the sill, try raising the sweep to its highest position. To do this, loosen the screws slightly, adjust the sweep upward, and then tighten the screws securely.

If adjusting the sweep doesn’t resolve the issue and it is still dragging or binding, the insect screen frame may be out of square. Follow the steps below to check the frame alignment.

Check if the Insect Screen is Square

Remove the insect screen from the patio door by taking out the hinge pins.

  • If you need assistance identifying your Andersen® products, visit our Identify Your Product Opens in a New Browser Tab pathway in the Andersen Window and Door Help Center

Measure diagonally across the insect screen.

  • From the lower left corner to the upper right corner

  • From the upper left corner to the lower right corner

Compare the two (2) measurements: If the difference is greater than 1/8 inch, the insect screen is not square. If the insect screen is out of square, we recommend replacing the insect screen Opens in a New Browser Tab.

If the insect screen is square but continues to rub, drag, or bind, the patio door frame itself may not be plumb, level, or square. To check the patio door installation, see Checking Window or Patio Door Unit Installation.
