Optimum performance of your patio door hinged insect screen can be achieved with basic routine maintenance. Checking that your insect screen panel is installed and in good condition can help make sure that your hinged insect screen continues to perform smoothly. Andersen recommends that you check the installation and condition of your hinged insect screen once a year.
Check Installation
When properly installed and in good condition, a visual inspection of your hinged insect screen will show no tears or fraying of the insect screen mesh. The space between the insect screen panel and the patio door unit frame will be equal on all sides.
If your hinged insect screen door is rubbing on the frame of your patio door unit, your insect screen may be out of square. To check for square, see Patio Door Hinged Insect Screen Binding, Dragging or Rubbing on the Sill. Use the link here to see all our Andersen® hinge patio door accessory guides
.
Check Hinges
The hinge assemblies should also be checked for operation and condition. If upon inspection you notice a bent, detached or damaged hinge component, replacement is recommended. Each insect screen panel will have either two (2) or three (3) hinge assemblies depending on the height of the patio door unit, as outlined in the installation guides attached below.
For information on replacing the hinges, see Hinge Replacement for Patio Door Hinged Insect Screens.
Cleaning
Your hinged insect screen and track is best cleaned with soapy water and a garden hose. A soft-fiber brush can be used to remove any debris. After cleaning, thoroughly rinse the insect screen to remove all soap residue. Hinges may be lubricated using a dry lubricant spray
.
DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or solutions containing corrosive solvents. For persistent dirt or grime, use a nonabrasive cleanser or a mixture of water and alcohol or ammonia.
