- Understand what to do if your interior removable grille or its fastener/plunger is too damaged to repair.
Tools and Supplies Needed

- Wood glue
- Heavy object (for example, a large book or cast iron pan)
Let's Get Started
1. Remove and Inspect Interior Removable Grilles
We recommend inspecting the location of the grille's break before using these instructions. To do so, start by removing your interior grilles.
- Disengage the fasteners or plungers one at a time, starting at the bottom end of the grille.
- Release the fasteners or plungers along the sides. Do not pull from the center of the grille.
Be aware that removal steps may vary slightly depending on the type of grille fastener or plunger on your Andersen window or patio door. For model-specific instructions, see Identifying and Installing Grille Fasteners for Removable Interior Grilles on Andersen® Windows and Doors.
Note: If you notice a grille feels loose on your window but is not broken, try to improve the fit by slightly bending the fasteners or plungers toward the grille to increase tension.
2. Repair Interior Removable Grilles
If you find a minor break at the intersection of the vertical and horizontal bars:
- Clean all surfaces with a soft cloth to remove dust. For more detailed instructions on cleaning your grilles, see Clean Interior Removable Grilles on Andersen® Windows and Doors.
- Lay the grille flat with the glass-facing side up. You should be able to see where the bars interlock.
- Apply a small drop of wood glue at the intersection of the bars.
- Press the other grille bar into place and hold it firmly.
- Place a heavy object on top of the joint and let the glue dry completely.
If your grilles, fasteners, or plungers are cracked, shattered, or too damaged to repair, we recommend replacing them. The correct parts can all be ordered separately through the Andersen Windows & Doors Parts Store.
