Andersen® double-hung windows use balancers in the unit frame to hold the upper and lower window sash in place. If the window sash slides down and does not hold its position in the frame, the pivot pin may not be engaged in the balancer shoe. Side jamb balancers are used in the A-Series and 400 Series Tilt-Wash Double-Hung windows. If you need assistance identifying your product, visit our Identify Your Product
pathway in the Andersen® Window and Door Help Center.
When the window sash is tilted inward for cleaning, it should remain tilted. When one (1) side does not stay tilted, this usually indicates the window sash is not correctly located in the balancer shoe. If this is the case, the balancers will need to be reset.

Press down on the lower corners of the sash to engage the pivot pins with the balance shoes before tilting the sash into the frame.
Raise and lower the sash to ensure the pivot pin is fully engaged in the balancer shoe within the jamb liner on each side of the frame.
If re-engaging the balancers does not improve operation, replacement balancers may be needed. We have Service Providers available to assist with replacement part installation.
