Modification Is Not Recommended
Replacing Glass
We do not recommend replacing the glass in your window. See Broken Glass.
Installing an Air Conditioner
We do not recommend installing a window-mounted air conditioning (AC) unit in the window. While AC units have been known to be installed in windows, we do not offer instructions for installation, as there is too great a risk of damage to the window.
Installing Alarm Systems
For more information, see Installing an Alarm or Alarm Sensors on Andersen® Products.
Applying Film to Glass
We do not recommend applying reflective or decorative film to your window or patio door glass. For more information, see Applying Film to Andersen® Window or Patio Door Glass.
Changing the Handing of a Window or Patio Door
We do not recommend changing the handing, or the direction in which your window or patio door opens. An example is switching the handing of a gliding window to open from the left vs the right-hand side.
To review the different handings available for windows and patio doors, see Andersen® Window and Patio Door Handing.
Changing the Operation of a Window or Patio Door
We do not recommend changing how your window or patio door operates. An example is converting a stationary window or patio door into an operating window or patio door - or vice versa.
Changing the Operator Type on Your Casement or Awning Window
We do not recommend converting the style of operator used on your casement or awning window to another style, such as converting from a split-arm operator to a straight-arm operator - or vice versa. Operator styles can be seen in Identify My Andersen Casement Window Worksheet.
To review the different operators available for casement and awning windows, see Identify Casement or Awning Window Operator.
